So I measured the TDS of the LFS water just in order to acclimate some new fish better and it was over 2500!!! I didn't think it could get that high! And that was after the bagged water was diluted to about a gallon with my tank water (TDS <250). Knowing about this very high TDS helped me out so I could drip acclimate them over a longer period of time than I would normally do. I diluted it out serially over about 10 gallons of tank water until TDS was less than 500 before I transferred the fish. Probably could have continued some more!

TDS meters are cheap and seem to provide valuable information about general water quality.

Duh, I should have thought of that. Thanks guys. I haven't used salt in the water really since I had a couple mollies about a year back. The LFS probably puts some in for stress relief ...
