I could use help IDing a moss species I have. I was told that it's a thin species of java moss. Are there significant variations within the taxiphyllum barbieri species? I'll work on getting a picture up in a few minutes. My lights won't be on for another couple hours but I'll take the piece out and hopefully get some better lights on it anyway.

I'm not sure what this moss species is. It looks exactly like Java Moss but is much finer. It's similar in size to some hair algae but is much tougher than any algae I've seen. Please let me know your suggestions.

I have some hair algae in my other tank though. It's nothing like it. This stuff isn't slimy or brittle. It's strong and thick.

hair or hair algae? My friend received a large portion of this stuff when he ordered some high quality RCS. I can't remember where he ordered from.

any specific species of cladophora? I google imaged it and I think you may be correct.

I keep getting pics of marimo balls. The pictrures that look like what I have don't have any description past cladophora.

can't tell you species but it's a pest algae.

thanks for the ID. I'm thinking that's what it is. I wish you were wrong but I believe you're correct . Even though it's a pest algae are there any uses for it?

yes algea its a pita for some to remove. it looks like the plastic mesh was started with a moss but then poorly cared for and became a algea magnet idd just toss all that out and hope u dont have any strands that broke free to reinfect your tank. i wouldnt even try to save a strand of the moss left due it being so infested. if ur looking for some moss i got some flame or fiss font i could sell ya or just check the swap an shop but toss that out asap!!!! you will understand once a piece breaks free and gets into everything...
