So I decided to do a little experiment on a dry start using some tupperware which I had layout out. This would prepare me better for any challenges that I would have dry starting my 4ft tank.

From what I have and seen you the tops should not be on tight. For then the plants use up the oxygen in the container.
Don't have the lids on just clingwrap which I open every day for a few minutes.

You need to keep it open for at least 2hrs. I am leaving the lid to my tank open 4hrs. I have some red plants though. I tried it your way and the plant died. Also if water gets on the leaves they could mold.

Here setup with bottles.

I get plants from Pet Supermarket that are in great shape with great color. The reason is because their tanks are open.
Day 8

A little more growth, One of the smaller rocks got moved, but plants looking much better.

This is really brilliant actually. Fun project. I suggest trimming some of the tops after different lengths of time to see if they spread out more

Day 15

Growth has been a lot more since the start. Haven't done anything yet. Just natural sunlight.
