Tropica does not sell direct, you would have to seek out a local distributor or online distributor.

Which of course there are none where I live. Why don't these people sell on Amazon like everyone else? So many people would buy if they sold directly .

It likely has a lot to do with local laws. Instead of having to know laws across the whole country(or world in their case) they only have to worry about distributors knowing whats legal and what is not. Even with tissue cultures a species might be illegal etc.

Lots of things are illegal but go unenforced. illegal aliens sanitary cities, marijuana is illegal on a federal level making it illegal in all 50 states but you look at Colorado, California,etc...

There is even a city where its illegal for women to drive unless her husband walks in front of the car waving a red flag.
" Memphis: Illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians."

Dumb Laws in Tennessee. Crazy Tennessee Laws. We have weird laws, strange laws, and just plain crazy laws!

I think the government has bigger things to worry about them someone's aquarium plant.

A lot of times, there are plants that are deemed invasive species and cannot be shipped or sold in certain states. It's more than just about a person and their tank. There are times where we do need to think about invasive plants (or fish/inverts) and the bigger picture. There are plenty of online retailers that sell Tropica plants. Spend a few minutes to use Google, or better yet, buy from other members on this forum. You can basically get anything you want and you're keeping the money in the hobby. I've only had positive experiences from other members here.

Seems like kind of an odd question. I guess the answer would be, that's not the business model they're following. Why not just move to a place that has a local distributor?

Pick up my family and sell my house and business and move hundred of miles away just to be near a petstore that sells this type of plant?

Seems like selling online would be the easier solution. I have seen some of these business which refuse to sell online and they are either still very small or out of business.

Amazon started out as a book store when most book store refused to sell online now the guy is one of the richest people in the world.

If they won't want to sell to me I am more than happy to buy from members of this forum. I think if they partnered with a Billionaire investor like in sharktank, they would probably tell them the same thing.

Tropica is great, I love Tropica. Up untill about a year ago, there was a import embargo in the US against their plants, if you were in the US and wanted tropica plants you were SOL. Now, I dont know how or why, that embargo was lifted and tropica is free to import their plants into the states.

What tropica offers is called " Tiusse Culture " plants, these are great because there is no snails, or algae or parasites that can hitch hike into your tank.

Now that the embargo has lifted, it seems like its pretty easy these days to find tissue culture plants, but not from tropica ( which is fine, their typical culture costs around $12).

Check out Aquariumplants.com, they have over 50 spieces of tissue culture plants and are just $4.99 each, and they ship anywhere.

Rachel O'leary has Tropica plants. You'd have to e-mail to find out which she has available or could get for you.

There's some on Amazon, too

Your always better off buying plants in the U.S. If an exporter sends you plants without the proper certifications and the package gets inspected, not only does the exporter get in trouble so does the importer (you). You might be flagged by customs as an illegal importer and it could stay with you. Definitely not worth it.
Please be reminded that vendor reviews, and political content/posts containing politically charged comments are not permitted.

As also mentioned, if purchasing plants from users/stores, the buyer can be held responsible to ensure that no state/federal laws are being broken.

As the majority of users are located in the US, the USDA website has a list of (federal) noxious weeds, which can be found here:
