Tropica soil

Anyone that has used this soil, do you like it? Im just wondering if its really light like fluval stratum? I set up a tank for a friend with stratum, dont like it at all, way to light for my liking, I want to change my sub, might go tropica sub capped with sand, unless someone can say if its good to plant in and holds plants good then i might skip the cap, thanks
