Hi all, I'm that geek girl, and I'm from the greater Sacramento, CA region! I've always had a tank at one point in my life or another, but a few years ago I moved here from Ohio and decided to leave my tanks and equipment as it was going to cost too much to get here! (some is still in storage, but I sold a large amount of things)

Anyways, for Christmas I bought a (gently used) 46 bow and have decided to try my first "real" planted tank! I've kept some low maintenance plants before with general success, so I've decided to start low tech and move up to high tech once I get my feet wet again!

I've decided to do a dry start with the foreground plants. which may or may not work, we will see!

Oh, and besides fish-keeping I'm an artist and gamer!

Thanks! Now if only my substrate would hurry up and get here... *grumble*

I do a lot of mixed media things, mostly involving sculpting and painting! I'm actually pretty excited to paint something cute for above the tank once it's all settled!

I have seen a couple of Sculpey/Fimo items in tanks, done up by forum members. Pretty cool idea, and aquarium friendly. Ha ha, if you're good you can have a side business maybe. Do custom tank ornaments!

I just play with paints occasionally, not an artist, just hobby skills. I did a pre-stretched canvas background for one of my tanks using tourquoise, white, and black acrylics. It was fun and I liked the end result.

I'm starting with some cuba and monte carlo, so let's hope they turn out okay!

I'd love to see your background! I just painted mine black because I'm boring. I've actually been looking into diy tank decor, but not for the tank I'm working on now since I'm trying to go for a natural look. I'll have to nose around the forums and see what others have done for decor!

I like black too, but it's nice to have a change sometimes. I had a black paper one prior to this blue background. Might make another one, different colour, that way I have options. Those canvas things go on sale at Michaels fairly frequently.
