I've read up on how to get neon tetras to spawn and I'm basically reading move a male and a female together in a separate tank. I don't have resources for that... I just think it'd be cool for them to lay eggs in my community tank. Of course I'd make an effort to separate the fry -- not looking to breed them or get rich from it (like that would ever happen) but I think it'd be fun.

Any tips?

Most tetra are notorious egg eaters, so if the neons don't eat them another fish will. Everything I have seen suggested crazy soft and acidic water. With many bacteria/fungi not being able to survive under a PH of 6.0 and this number increasing as the value falls I imagine at a 5.0 or under their eggs have a better chance of hatching without any complications due to infection or fungal attack. They have evolved in an environment that is devoid of these issues and lost whatever coatings other fish have to protect the developing eggs as it was not needed. Just my guess, but something to possibly consider moving forward.
