I just noticed today that I have these tiny oval shaped bugs about the size of the tip of a pencil. They have a shell and hang out in the gravel, occassionally swimming through the water. Anyone have any idea on what they are and if I should be concerned?

Copepods. Their presence is indicative of excellent water quality, so you should be happy that they're there.
