My tank setup requires 5 separate timers for various things. I've got them all plugged into a multi power outlet. Problem is - the timers are mechanical and when I shut the power off to the outlet for cleaning they stop keeping time. So, after a few days or so I've got reset them all to the correct time. Is there a way to get around this besides putting switches on each individual line after the timer? Maybe someone has a better setup that they use or could recommend.

You can get digital timers with backup batteries. Or just flick each timer off manually and when you're done, flick them back on.

I've got a GFI but the lights hang close to the water and make me a little nervous. Is a GFI 100% protection?

I put my timers on a seperate strip for exactly that reason. Can't stand resetting things. And the lights being on sure do help with maintenance.

As for whether the strip would protect you ...... well it's supposed to, but then things can always fail.
