Unfortunately I live in New England. So temps here get rather cold. During the day we keep the temp at about 68 and at night it drops to 65 or lower to safe energy. So I can't do an ambient temp thing.
if you throw low energy usage out of the picture, i used an adjustable temp space heater in the room my tanks are in. I had a heater in my 10 gallon & my betta bowl w/o a heater. it can get pretty chilly down here in florida haha Our home heating system doesn't work right, so it gets cold in this brick ice box! my tanks stayed within a degree of where i wanted it. i did have to keep my betta bowl in close vicinity of the heater, but not close enough to cook him. But then again you're in New England, so good luck!
