The Harley Davidson Guppy by Stef* Photos Added 3/7/2014

I've been working on this new strain of guppies that branched off of my Rorschach line. The bodies are mostly black with orange, tricked out with plenty of chrome, and "flames" shooting out the tailpipes.

I am posting this for the comment on another thread stating, "I hate guppies" and " only old woman with parakeets had them" :)

Sorry for poor video quality; was done quick-like:

I wish I could get a closeup video, but that looks awesome! I like the tail on the male. I think it'd be more intriguing if you could get the "flames" to go back more, maybe get spikes on the actual tail shape.

Have you thought about the line out (once established) with lyre tails to get the split tail trait? I think that'd be awesome.

I like the dorsal fin color/pattern. I think it would be awesome if you could breed the strain for elongated dorsal fins. Same with the anal fins, if you could get them to be longer, it'd be cool.

I know that's a lot of suggestions and it may not even be possible (not really a guppy breeder, just an enthusiast) but you've done an awesome job there!
Thank you, Guppy5.
That fish was born in Dec, and there are 6 other brothers like it.
The "flames" on the tail just started appearing 3 weeks ago, and it is in a lyre tail design, but the tail is clear. The "points" of the lyre are expanding.
They have extended high dorsals, I wish he would of displayed, but it is quite striking.
Same with the bold orange-red stripe on the side.
Females follow the traditional Rorschach look, with extended dorsals, and black trim with/without yellow.

They still have a lot of developing to do, and I was pre-mature with the thread, but wanted to show guppies are not just for old ladies, and don't have to be dainty little pansies :)

Decent pics will follow as they mature.

I have this one guppy come from a pair of green cobras that was a solid black with red and yellow stripes on the tail. Whenever he swam it looked like flames where launching off his body! Sadly, he is very old now and every female he has ever breed with produced some variant of green cobras.
Sounds exciting! The video wasnt working for me, any pics?

On another note, anyone thinking guppies are lame needs to check out your other thread. You have some beautiful guppies with amazing colors that dont just "happen." I certainly applaud your work :D

Dont believe me, take your eyes on a nice little vaca :icon_cool lol
Gorgeous boy Stef! I'll have to try and get a good pic of the one you gamme! My boy's do lotsa displaying, so if Im lucky, I might be about to get a nice shot... now let's just hope it comes out clear.

Worst case I can follow suit and shoot a short vid.
I found the perfect tank for these guppies today at my local lfs. :p

WOW! ^^^^^^^^
I'll ship that LFS a batch for free, if they display them in that tank!
They were made for a tank like that, and I don't think you'd find it in an old woman's home...
...or maybe she'd put it next to the parakeet's cage :)

I<3<*))))>< (Stephanie)
I'd love to see how your boy is maturing!
I'll see what I can do about getting some shots of the biker brothers.

Okay. Some Harley photos.
Keep in mind they are barely 3 months old.
I don't know what size they will be at maturity, but seem to be on the smaller side, although none of my guppies are what you would call "petite".

The Sportsters:

Dynas'
(Motorcycle Mamas. Little hussies already dropped fry):

Softails
(with flames edition):

I have a few where the tails have not colored-just clear. These are separate from the Bike Club, and may be culled. Also, anything with blue gets yanked. A pale blue bordering on white is acceptable, but want to keep the black true.
Sorry for the quality on the pics. They are very active, young, and they get freaked during photo fest, resulting in paling of color. The Chocolate Cherries' and Rorschachs' are used to it.

I have very similar tuxedo guppies with the orange patch on the side, the light blue edge of the dorsal fin, with the same blue stripe going down the the caudal fin. The females look the same, too, with the yellow cobra tail and tuxedo coloring. I had to breed a cobra-tail female with a tuxedo male to get the females to carry and express the tuxedo gene(s). Where did you get those guppies from?

Those are fantastic! The softails are "The Fish on Fire". LOL

And who knows, maybe the parakeet wears a leather jacket! :)

I have been breeding them for almost 5 years now. My Rorschach thread has the genealogy and can be traced back all the generations.
I am not trying for tux-trying to get a mostly black bodied fish (Not dark blue or half and half, want black heads. Think reverse tux.), and these came about. They are the result of Chocolate Cherries x Stained Glass.

Hey, I knew someone who used to drive his hog with a parrot on his shoulder like a pirate! :)

-Stef*
I see the similarities, Solcielo.
Wonder what crossing them would do?
I see tendency towards spade tail in your photo, and mine are much larger than traditional endler size.
How old is the guppy in your photo?
-Stef*
LOL I would love to see that!

We have a delightful man that slow jogs around the neighborhood with his parrot. I always thought he was talking to himself when I saw him go by the front window until a chance encounter while I was out walking the dog - the parrot sings to him and says encouraging phrases - keep going, steady steady, etc. LOL. It also whistles songs in the cul-de-sac as it makes an echo.

I do wonder if the parrot understands context or if he/she is just encouraging all the time! It also knows the neighbor's dog's name and will call it and whistle when it sees her.

Sorry to go so off topic! :icon_redf

I think it was born in November 2013 so about 5 months now. The F0 male had a flame tail (with three short prongs like a spork) but all the F1 males came out as delta-tail mutts with no tuxedo phenotype. The F2s, 50% of the males and females came out with the tuxedo phenotype. The tails are all over the place with nothing stable. The spade tail is more of an illusion due to the black coloration.

Here's the F0 male:

This guy is my favorite.
Yeah, that one is most "Harley-like" to me, and started the interest.

I'd be interested in sending a few your way and see what comes of mixing them with that male. I like the blackness of it, and I think my guys can beef yours up and stabilize the tails. I have 2 tanks dedicated to "Harleys", but concentrating on the Rorschachs, which I will update soon. It's only been since Oct/Nov, and I am very pleased with the results, but short on room.
I also have solid blacks I will work into it when the "look" is more or less locked into place.
I considered using the Panda endlers for future Harley breeding, but your
guy has more of what I'm looking for. PM me for details if you are interested in some Mad Scientist doings and gene splicing. It's hard as heck getting black heads/bodies without sacrificing tail/dorsal coloration and size. Maybe I'm impatient, lol.
