Testing for CO2 cylinders

Do all CO2 cylinders have to be tested, or is it just the steel versus aluminum, etc? And how frequently do they have to be tested? And who does these tests?

Yes all compressed co2 tanks need testing. every 5 years. most of the places that do refills will do test if not I'm sure they can tell you where.
Thanks for the great info! It's coming close to time for me to refill my 5-lb and I don't recall seeing a stamp on it so will have to dig up a purchase receipt and try to figure out how long ago I got it.
The last date it was hydro'd is stamped on the tank itself. The numbers at the top of the tank are the date.
Usually with the frequency we refill our tanks in this hobby there is no need worry about hydro testing. Unless you find an old tank at a garage sale r something.

Ps. Got the worms today thanks a million!

Hmmm.... I just looked closely at the tank and don't see anything that resembles a date. Lots of numbers and letters, yes, but not an obvious date. I'll just ask the guy when I get it filled if he can "interpret" all the numbers for me and tell me what he recommends for hobby usage and testing frequency (if needed).

bsmith - glad to hear the culture arrived well - hope they end up being an option for you!
The stamp is not an obvious date, it's the month and year. Check this for clues.

LOL! No it wan't obvious! I just returned from getting my cylinder refilled and I asked the guy to find the date for me. Even after he pointed it out for me, I had trouble locating which set of numbers again! But now I know I've got 2 years to go yet before needing a test. :) Thanks for the link!
