Test Sticky: Shrimp and Invertebrates FAQ

2661 Views 16 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  deleted_user_17
Per suggestions made here, this could be a format for a forum-specific sticky which would include links to informative threads, former stickies, and answers to FAQs.

Current stickies (would be un-stuck and only referenced in this thread):
Information for people wanting to breed cherry shrimp
Crystal Red Shrimp information (care and breeding)
What's that bug? How to recognize them

And new additions as well:
Advice for new shrimp keepers

So... what do you think?

I like this format a lot, it allows for you to place a lot of threads without cluttering up the top!
I like it. My only questions are what makes a thread worthy of being linked here? Also, who decides if it is worthy? It goes back to what Hoppy said about not wanting to put in the time and effort if the thread is just going to disappear into the oblivion.

I guess the fun part now for us inverts is to come up with a list of FAQs we think need to be answered!

Maybe an abbreviations key, that would be useful...

Im thinkin its required lol, not useful. I spent a lot of time trying to understand some of the jargon and abrev. we use here lol.
Good idea. I like the format. Maybe categorize the links into
1) the basics/fundamentals
2) faqs
3) further reading
Stickies don't really work. There will still be 1000 threads about what fish is compatible with shrimp and 1000 threads about starting a shrimp tank. At least before people would click the stickies since they were right there...now they will be hidden in an FAQ thread that will not grab anybody's attention.
This free's the individual authors to update their own referenced posts.

good idea.

If a sticky doesn't work it's because of what's in it. On many forums covering various hobbies & interests Stickies are typically information overloads with unneeded pontification.

I would offer the moniker "sticky" remains in use as that is the accepted internet jargon. Just when you open it you will find a FAQ followed by a few pertinent links.
This would have been very easy for me to follow when I was a newbie a few months ago! I think this is a great idea
I like this idea. The sticky would be a listing of threads with pertinent information, so even if a thread was buried on page 26, it would still be easily accessible when needed. And, if time isn't kind to one of those threads, it would just be quietly removed from the list.
Someone needs to do one on Tigers.

SO much conflicting information.
Here are my suggestions for the FAQs we need for inverts:
1. Abbreviations
2. Neo info, like which ones are neos, basic neo care and breeding
3. Caridina info, just like what would be in the neo thread
4. Substrates
5. General fish and critter (eg CPO or crays) compatibility
6. Possible reasons shrimp might be dying and what to do about them
7. Foods
8. Filtration options
9. Possibly basic tank setup, if that's not covered somewhere already
10. Snails
11. Possibly one about other inverts like crays, since this is an invert sub-forum, not just a shrimp sub-forum

^ This is going to be good

Just in case they are not covered in the above FAQs, a piece about water parameters, how adjust ph/kh/gh would be useful for us new to shrimp keeping, oh and how to acclimate too.

Nice one :)
