Tell Me Mas About Moss, Please!

888 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  BuffDaddy
I'm looking to do a lava field like tank in an Iwagumi style, reminiscent of living in Iceland when I was a young Naval Officer. The lava fields where I lived were covered in moss and lichens.

I'd like to find a moss that is fairly low-growing and is relatively fast-growing. Could I get some recommendations?

Hurm you could try subwassertang attached to rocks. For moss that you could attach for rock look at some pictures of
Spiky moss
Christmas moss
Weeping/willow moss
Flame moss (but this grow up more then spreading out)
Java moss is quite common but it just goes pretty much everywhere.
All of these grow slowish, but are relatively hardy.

But I'm practically a beginner at this so someone might have a better answer. Though I think those would be a good start.
Also you could check out dwarf baby tears and dwarf hair grass, tho they are known to be demanding.
Fissidens species are pretty low-growing. Most mosses are pretty slow though. Java Moss can go quite crazy though.

YA, I forgot fissiden that would work quite well.
Thanks, Y'all! I just got a bunch of fissidens and a couple of mossimo mats! If I get this up and rolling this weekend, I'll post pics.
