so i'm in san jose and my tap water here is pretty damn hard. i'm in the process of starting up a 20L and wanted to know which kind of shrimp you guys have had luck with for harder water in your cities.

people locally breed tons of TFR's and RCS's but i'm interested in going for CRS (SS or SSS). i currently have 5 CRS juvies (2 SS and 3 SSS) but that tank is all RO and it's small (3 gallon) so i dont have to keep restocking on RO as frequently.

the main reason i'm asking this is also because RO isn't as easily accessible to me (having a motorcycle is a blessing and a pain in the ass).

Any neo species is fine. Any crystal shrimp will need at least RO mixed with tap at minimum for the grade you want. Invest in a little RO unit. They aren't much money. Water changes on even a 10g tank shouldn't be that bad. Just take a 1g juice container (washed obviously) down to a local grocery store or water mill. 1g of water is 10% in a 10g tank which is plenty one time a week
You're definitely right, i've looked into RO units, but it'll be a few months before i can save up for one (college budget). I'm trying to see how to best do this with what I have immediately. But thanks for your input!
