I need to tap my Light (2 bulb shop light 48") to get it to come on half of the time. Sometimes it comes on by it self on the timer but not always.
any ideas?

Sounds like corroded contacts.

Unplug the light and remove the bulbs. Use 300 grit wet/dry sandpaper (the gray stuff) to clean the pins on the bulbs and the contact strips of the fixture (where the bulb fits in).

If the fixture has a starter, replace it.

Thanks for your reply. I'll give polishing the contact areas a try . I moved the balast to the out side of the tank thinking that the ballast was getting to hot and moist.

Something's wrong with the ground. By you touching it, you are actually becoming the ground for it, which is why it turns on at that point.

Check the ground wire and make sure it's still firmly attached/grounded.


(or, the starter needs to be replaced).
