Cut a piece of filter sponge to fit the gap and use flourish glue you can get at the local fish store to glue it to the glass. If you need to replace just rip off and repeat.

Great idea, just don't buy overpriced glue, any cyanoacrylate glue will do. In my tank I just stuffed the holes with sponges without any glue.Cut a piece of filter sponge to fit the gap and use flourish glue you can get at the local fish store to glue it to the glass.
