Hi guys, i need your opinion on a light bulb. I ordered a nova extreme 48" 2 x 54w light, i am planning to replace the pinkish stock bulb with SlimPaq 54w, or something else? so please let me know thanks!!

It's more expensive, but I'm a fan of the Giesemann Midday bulb. The color rendition is great, easily the nicest bulb i've seen yet.

I like pink bulbs, personally. They bring out reds and blues in a tank.

GE Starcoats 6500K have high PAR and are a little bluer in appearance. FWIW, I pair 2 GEs with 2 Giesmann Middays. The blue of the starcoat kind of offsets the yellow of the Midday in my opinion.

I don't recomment the slim Pac, the cost vs. PAR isn't very good. Below is a link to a reef site that compares PAR (photosynthetic Active Reactance) of various bulbs.

I really like the look of pinkish bulbs mixed with white bulb. Something about the strong white of the 10,000k and the pink really mixes well and makes plants POP!

6700k/Colormax PC bulb plus a 10,00k PC bulb:

So I'd keep one of the pink bulbs and throw in one of the GE Starcoats 6500k for a nice look, or find a good 10,000k bulb.

Hmmm,
I have one of those nova extreme pink bulbs stored away, maybe I'll install it and see how it looks. It came with a Nova extreme 2x39 watt that I have but, I took it out because of the low PAR value. Since I am now using a Nova Extreme 4x39 watt, I think I have PAR to spare so, I'll give it a try.

Thanks guys. wow jmhart nice looking tank, are those stock bulbs? i am going to try to run the stock bulb first and see how it goes, if i don't like it then i will get Giesemann Midday.

The bulbs are not stock. That is a DIY 2x96w retrofit kit using AH Supply reflectors and a Coralife ballast.

The bulbs are one 96w Coralife 6700K/Colormax bulb and one AHS 10,000K bulb.

In my 60-P, I'm running a GE 9325K bulb and an AHS 7700K bulb and it's a great mix.

I really like mixing pink and white.

Nice tank laura, it doesn't look that bad. The pinkish goes away after it gets hot right? it happens to my coralife 48" 2 x 28w NO. Anyways thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "the pink goes away"? If you look at the bulb with the fixture on (I don't recommend it... LOL) the bulb still LOOKS pink, but when in combo with the other bulb in the fixture, the light in the TANK doesn't look pink...

Pretty much you said it lol. Once my coralife stock bulbs get hot, then my tank does not look pink.

I just upgraded to a pair of Giesemanns - Midday and Aqua Flora. The AF does bring out the reds in plants and colors in fish. Overall though the tank doesn;t appear to have the sparkle that it did with the original Hagen Glo bulbs. Plants do seem to be growing a little faster.
