My friend, Dr. Samuli Lehtonen had the disputation of his thesis yesterday, and got honours. :bounce: His thesis "Natural History of Echinodorus (Alismataceae)" is mainly a rather tough read as it's mostly a cladistic (morphological & molecular) analysis with a new revision of the genus. However, the thesis includes a much more accessible article about the history and present (2003) situation of the swordplant growing nearby Iquitos, Peru.

The article "Notes on Aquarium Plant Production in Peruvian Amazonia" can be found on this site (the 4th from the top). Enjoy!

The most recent news (from yesterday) of the situation around Iquitos is that the article has caused more interest in returning to the the Echinodorus cultivation locally, thereby helping to better the local economy instead of letting all the money made with their natural resources flow to the foreign countries and companies! :proud:
