For those that have sump, do you put the media direct on the bottom of the sump or do you have it up a few inches? For example with some egg create and PVC? That how I have mine setup now, but could use the extra room and wondering if I could do away with it. All the media is in bags so it won't be moving into another chamber.

I allow the sponges to rest on the bottom, and loose media is in nylon stockings, not loose in the sump. Those bags are also on the floor of the sump.
I do find there is a lot of debris that settles down there, so when I clean the sponges that bottom edge is the worst, and I need to vacuum the sump really well.

I have my media sitting on an egg crate stand (PVC legs). Random media (crushed coral, carbon when needed, etc.) is all either in a bag where the overflow goes or between the bubble traps

That how I have mine as well, other than egg crate. My sump is really difficult to work on, long story for another day, but trying to make it easy to do maint on.

Also plan to put a shelf in and put foam rather filter socks.
