What are you trying to accomplish with the tank? 2.5 gallon? 7.5 gallon cube? Low/medium/high light? Ferts and/or co2?
I also like finnex leds. I own 5. The stingrays come with an adapter with 2 holes that replaces the standard legs it comes with allowing you to mount it flush with a canopy. You could use some cord or cable and rig it through the holes and hang it that way instead of screwing it into a canopy. The 12" model runs under 30 bucks. Aquavibrant.com is finnex's retail site. They rate the stingrays for low light applications but there is a thread on here where a user PAR tested the stingray and it registered in the low 50's at 12" directly below the light through water.
