What substrate is good for shrimp tank? My tap water is quite hard here, so it would be the best to get something that will lower my PH and hardness, what do you guys recommend? Thanks

Definitely worth the extra dollar.
Here they sell for $42.99 (9L) is that too much or average??
So does aqua soil lower the PH AND Hardness? or just the PH?

Im curious myself ... :)

From: http://www.adgshop.com/Aqua_Soil_s/21.htm

A high pH level (alkaline) of the substrate causes difficulties for aquatic plants in consuming nutrients. The Aqua Soil Series decreases the hardness of the water and lowers the PH level to the degree at which most aquatic plants can consume nutrients and comfortably grow. Aqua Soil granules maintain their shape and density for long periods underwater securing good circulation of water and oxygen through the substrate. With Aqua Soil, growing difficult plants such as Tonina sp. becomes easier, and it is ideal for fishes demanding soft water.
just bought 9L and wow it smells good! Lool

how many inches of depth should I add? dwarf grass
I believe 3-4 inches of depth is recommended. Deeper towards the back.
4 inches?! Cant be serious?
It depends on the size of the tank. 4" of substrate in a 10 gallon would be absurd.

In my Mini-L I have 1.5" in the front and about 2.5" in the back.
I've got 3 inches in the front and 3 1/2 to 4 in the back in my 15 gallon. I got the amount of Aquasoil recommended for a 15 gallon tank. They recommend 4 inches. I also think its crazy but I have nothing else to use the soil for and my shrimp and snails dont need much room lol.
How much would be good for a 2g? Bought one from the SnS, and I'm hoping to set it up as a shrimp tank around spring time.

i have 4" in the back of my 10g tanks. check out my journal in my sig, it doesn't look bad at all IMHO
I think it depends on the PH you trying to reach, more soil = lower PH. Right now I am at 7.2 with 2 inches soil. I will add one more inch so to lower it to 6.8, better for CRS.
