hey there,
I'm new to aquarium tanks. Just bought a 3 footer aquarium. I'm planning to have bettas and goldfishes. I've read all the basics on how to get the aquarium started, heaters, pumps, lights, and all. But I'm confused about one thing, substrate. can anyone suggest me some quick tips for my 3 footer aquarium and what should I put in as substrate?

There are lots of debates on ideal temperatures for fish but be aware that the betta is a tropical fish and goldfish are cold water fish. They can certainly survive together and might even do well, but if the conditions are ideal for one they won't be for the other.

Your substrate will depend somewhat on your overall plan. What kind of plants are you planning on? Again, most of the plants we deal with are tropical. Goldfish are not.
