Hi i just started a 8 gallon cube and I have HC Monte Carlo Cuba carpet plant growing very well and fast with flourite black sand.

I have a 20 long with fluval stratum soil which grows plants well but not carpet since they all float up. Is there a good substrate that I can use? I heard sand will constrict and not allow for rooting is this true?

Wait, what plant do you have growing?
You just named 3 different plants.

Sand will work fine, just a thin cap though.

The Flourite black sand is also my choice for carpet plants. Monte Carlo grows well in it. What lights are you going to use?
