has anyone heard of or used this as substrate.

it comes from a ceramic supply (pottery).

it's called grog, fired clay in chunks, won't get soft.

it used as an agregate in pottery for strenght.

it's much cheaper and seems to be similar to what's sold in aquarium shops.

it comes in screened sizes.

i'm looking for 50 mesh.

thank you

my quest for this 50 mesh grog isn't panning out.

it seems potters perfer a finer grog, so suppliers aren't carring the more coarse grog.

but do not fear.

let me tell you about chicken grit (fine stone).

it's sold to feed to chiken to help them digest. comes in course sand to 3/8".

i'm going to check it out tonite.

could be a plus, cheap.
