are the materials they use fish-friendly? most run of the mill hoses say not to drink from them or not for potable water use.In Northern states, water hoses are going to be, or are, on sale. Many are perfectly sized for filters.
Good advice on vinyl tubing.....I've notice it will want to collapse on the siphon side even if you have made the kink go away before installing.When purchasing vinyl tubing that comes in 10 foot rolls at big box stores, avoid rolls with any kinks in the tubing. Some of those bends never come out, even after running hot water through them.

No but home depot and Lowe's sell black vinyl tubing.Does anyone know where to get opaque tubing? Like solid grey or silver?
That way the clear won't look ugly from algae and get stained.
