I did a touch of reading and stumbled on this thread here: http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/...007-compact-florescent-lighting-question.html

Very similar to my current question which is if running a 6500K 36W bulb (I know it's 17", it's just for a 10 gallon atm) in that setup would be ok or not?

I know the response was to a different brand so I was wondering if JEBO (not known for best quality) had the same kind of ballast or not.

I currently have a half working (2 out of 4 lights) white/blue 24" JEBO fixture on it, have the other light, but it needs to be soldered. No stand / arch legs.
It's a nice bright light, but I don't like the way it looks on my tank. I think it's a 10000K and a blue light 65W. F07 Coralife 50/50.

I was thinking of using something like this 36W bulb:
http://www.amazon.com/Eiko-49297-Single-Compact-Fluorescent/dp/B001HXGQYS/
or a 55W like this: http://www.lightbulbsusa.net/Compac...-Tube-6500K-2G11-Base-Compact-Fluorescent.asp

If there's a better brand of light, etc, or one I should avoid lmk also! If you can't tell I try to be budget minded. :icon_redf
Thanks!

Get any of these bulbs and they should be fine. 6700k, 10000k or 6700k/10000k combo bulb.

You might want to stay with the same wattage bulbs as higher wattage bulbs most likely won't fit in the fixture due to length and the ballast won't run them at full power and therefore they may not produce enough light.

Thanks for the response. I sent off an email to JEBO as well and this is what I got:

JEBO lights can not use 65w for a long period of time. They will shorten
the life of the ballast. You can use anything smaller of course. If your
fixture was originally a 55w you can use anything smaller. Have fun
Since I'm not 100% on how ballasts work I'm going to try and verify this and then likely go with a 36W 6500K/6700K for my 10 gallon. Thanks!

*edit another response to running one bulb.
New electronic ballast can run dual or single at a time unlike the ballast on industrial light fixtures which need both bulbs to run.

I nabbed the 36W 6500K EIKO and its been running only when I'm there to watch it.

It's been fine for about 2 weeks now. It's failed to start once, but turned on fine a short while later.
Base of the bulb runs hot, but doesn't seem to be excessive.

The lamp's brightness and color seem great.
