Hello,

I have a planted shrimp tank with Amano shrimp. Today while cleaning and rearranging the hardscape, I took out one of my pieces of driftwood. This piece of driftwood has Java Moss attached to it, so I placed it temporarily in a bucket of water while I worked on cleaning the tank. When I dropped the wood into the bucket, an odd-looking aquatic insect popped off it and started swimming around. I don't know if it's benign or not, so I'm just keeping it in the bucket.

Can anyone possibly identify it?

I actually have to disagree with mosquito larvae. I let it dry off a little this time, and it very closely resembles the damselfly larvae in the link you posted.

I'm beginning to wonder if this has been the culprit behind a few disappearances.
