I live in Sarasota area and my boyfriend lives near North Port. Anyways he has a huge 55gal tank. We probably have check every single fish store in the areas. Mainly Petsmart, Seascape, Petco and Pet Supermarket. Pet Supermarket sells 3.99 for pretty healthy plants, but have maybe a selections of 4 different kinds of plants. Seascape and Petco have a bigger selection, but seascape the plants aren't that healthy or great looking. Petco....I just want to cry. I get so mad that they sell terrarium plants as aquatic plants.
Petco...a guy tried to sell a terrarium plant to this woman who owned a betta fish and she was looking for a plant for her betta. Well I couldn't just say anything so I told them that wasn't a good plant because it wasn't an aquatic plant. I've had plenty experience of buying plants only to find out later that they were actually for terrariums. They always ended up dying and now im more cautious of what I buy and can quickly identify which plants look suspicious. Anyways the employee was a very big man, and i'm a young women so i was a little terrified about telling him off. Anyways he stormed off in frustration of having lost the battle. The women buying the plants seemed extremely clueless and I suggested she should buy a plastic plant for her money's worth as it would last a long time and she only had a small betta fish tank. Probably not even 1 gallon.
I also don't really enjoy supporting Petco/Petsmart/Petsupermarket just because the employees in all of them are just clueless. When they meet someone like me whose had way more experience than them and can see past their lies they don't even try and help me get what i want. They just argue with me and don't even believe what I have to say.
I tried to buy a couple of yoyo loaches, and got them for a good price 2.99 each. (Normally up 7.99) The guy didn't have a price tag for them and called them algae eaters. *facepalm*
I hate that they keep betta fish in small containers, leaving them to die in their own waste. I got a few high quality ones from Petco, but most were sick, dead, had barely any space to move. They don't even care about fish. One Petsmart had a bunch of Dwarf Gouramis with Serpae Tetras. These tetras are known to be fin biters. The poor Dwarf Gouramis had their fins torn up, bitten and nipped. I asked the women working their why they put them with these Tetras. She cluelessly said that the Gouramis were the more aggressive ones...which makes me wonder why they put a large number of males together... anyways. She was completely clueless that the tetras were fin nippers. I felt sorry for the Dwarf Gouramis.
I feel like the employees think that every single customer is completely clueless and they have the knowledge. When they are actually the ones that know nothing. Why do they even bother working in that section.
Seascape good experiences there, except super high prices on stuff and most people don't know what they are talking about. One employee had no idea that Guppies gave live babies...and that the gravid spot means they are pregnant, and he works in the fish sections! omg. They have a good selections of different kinds of fish. Salt and fresh.
Back to the plants. I see so many tanks that are beautifully planted with plants. How do you guys do it. (i know right lighting, substrate, co2). How do you get your plants and where?? Do you buy all the plants at once or buy little by little. Anybody have experience of ordering plants/fish online. Which website is the best to order online. Is it best to order online or to go out to a store?
