Stocking Suggestions for a Newb?

I have a 55 Gal acrylic tank that I’m in the process of setting up. At the moment the only fish I know I want is a school of Rummynose Tetra’s (probably around 8 to 10) and some Fancy Guppies (4 or 5). As for what else I want to keep, there are so many options I’m just confusing myself. What I do know is that I want to keep them within about 3” in size. I do like the look of Platy’s but not sure which type.

So with that said, I’d love to hear some suggestions from you experienced folk.

You'd be surprised at how many do survive. I had Guppies with my GBR's and female Betta, still had 5+ fry survive with each batch. Granted they did pick off a lot of the fry, they don't get them all.
It sounds like you want lots of little schools/shoals of fish. Am I right?
Are you looking for specific colours? Behaviours? etc. Or do you just want a list of fish that stay under 3 inches?

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m going for.

Just trying to avoid putting incompatible fish in the same tank, and reading about it is one thing, but I find getting opinions from experienced people seems to help out more.

Also, just hearing people’s opinions about what Fish they particularly enjoy is very cool, and may just help me decide what type of fish I’d like. For example, I never had thoughts of keeping shrimp at all, then I saw some of the pictures of Cherry Shrimp on this site and now I’ll probably be looking for some. The more colorfull the better.
