So my 12g long has been sitting for the longest time without any fish because I haven't decided what to get yet! It has a nice carpet of UG and have cherries and amano shrimp and one nerite.

I am stuck between thread fin rainbow fish or Neon Dward rainbow fish with a school of small tetras.

What would be a better fit for my size tank/ how many of either rainbows could I keep?

Stick with threadfins or pseudomugil. Praecox rainbows may be called dwarf, but they still need a larger tank. I would do 6 rainbows and a small school of cories.

Thanks! I wasn't sure about the Dwarf rainbows. Is there a reason you suggest a school of cories rather than a school of tetras?

The rainbows are growing to hang around the top/middle. Tetras tend to do the same depending on the species. So that would mean the bottom of your tank would be bare of fish. But that's your decision.
