Stocking a 6 Gallon?

1859 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  rpadgett37
I initially planned this aquarium for a Betta; however, with the plants I picked, the ph and temp will be outside of the Betta preferences in water conditions (Tank will be at around PH 6.6, temp around 75 degrees F).

So, I am looking for something else as a showcase for this aquarium, and admit I am a bit stumped.

Could use some advice. Thanks

Any of the Boraras microrasbora would do well or a small school of Ember/Ruby tetra would work. For something more akin to a focal fish maybe consider one of the Badis or even one of the Everglades pygmy perch for something odd and actually a native

Really nice suggestions. Scarlet Gem Badis ia a go. I wonder though if I can also keep a small shoal of the ruby tetra with them given the size of the tank. Parameters are 17" wide, 10" deep, and about 7" of height (actual after substrate). 1 or two of the Badis and about 6 of the tetras. Tank heavily planted. Do you think that would be doable? Would the schooling fish in particular be comfortable in these parameters?
I don't see any issues in a tank with that as the stocking levels and the fish will be fine in those parameters. I have had 3 different bororas species and both embers and rubies in unheated planted tanks at room temp and they all did fine. Our tap is a bit crazy high (8.2-8.4) and they still all survived. When we dropped the Ph by using RO and Brightwell it went way low (<5.5) and the Bororas looked spectacular with brilliant reds. I imagine they will do wonderfully in your set up as is.
I will definitely be getting these fish. They're perfect for the tank and beautiful as well. The lighting I have plus the dark substrate should really highlight their colors.

The funny part is now, the shrimp will be the biggest thing in the tank rather than the smallest.
