Hi everyone! I am planning my tank.
I would love as many suggestions as you can give far as stocking because it will really help me discover new fish I am sure!
My tank will have 8 Glass Catfish and 5 Synodontis Mulitpunctatis as well has my husbands albino male Kribensis. I am looking for a beautiful torpedo like fish that has lots of color to compliment my Glass cats figure.:hihi:
I planned to have 8 Roseline sharks but read that due to demand, their species is suffering. So none of them for me unfortunately.

I would like to a have a good schooling fish that in adult size are between 4-6" long, that prefer to swim the mid level. Also, would like to add a couple other color dimensions. White and black. Different species of fish if possible to have two different groups. Just a thought (don't know if it can be done) is to have a white schooling top level fish and a bottom dwelling black schooling fish. I love schoolers because of the incredible movement.

I am not a fan of gouramis, neons and don't feel ready for Discus keeping. Mollies and Platys are awesome but do best in brackish water. Plus, they are small and goldfish have too much bioload plus being cold water fish...

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see what you guys suggest! Very fun!! Yippee!

Oh, forgot to add the tank info.
It will be planted with a sandy substrate. Not sure on equipment yet. I have an empty 48" long X 19" Wide X 22" Tall tank sitting in the garage waiting for my plan to come together. I am still working on the equipment details and, well pretty much everything!

Got a bit of a headache from equipment research over the last 2 days and thought I'd take a break and choose my fish! The fun part!

I wouldn't write off platies and mollies so quickly, especially if you like them. They do perfectly fine without brackish conditions.

I spent quite awhile last year searching for a bright yellow, yet peaceful fish (there are lots of nice, yellow cichlids) and finally found creamsicle lyretail mollies. They have quickly become one of my favorites.

Neolamprologus Pulcher? Any of the large rainbowfish species? Are there to be plants in there? If not, silver dollars might fit the bill.

Roseline sharks and redline torpedo barbs are the same fish, I believe. I would encourage you to keep discus if you didn't have kribs and syno cats.

Okay...so, I have been doing so much research and questioning my LFS owner to death! I am sure he hates seeing me coming now:tongue:

So, no synodontnis...they are prone to ICH according to my LFS. No glass catfish because they are too shy and prefer to hover in a location which doesn't work well in a tank of fast swimmers. I really enjoyed my glass catfish but the Krib was roughing them up. My LFS took them back and credited me for future fish I might choose.

I am now have 8 of the Roseline Sharks (torpedo barb, dennison barb, puntius denisonii) After extensive research I was able to determine that these fish are in fact being bred in capitivity. Just not on a high scale yet.

So, what I have in the tank right now is one 3" Kribensis, one 2.2" female Betta and 8 1to 3" Roselines. They are all doing magnifiscant! The betta LOVES her new home! It's awesome! The krib will be 4", the betta is fully grown and the roselines will be 5-6".

I would like a colorful schooler for the top of the tank. The betta actually is an all-over fish preferring the bottom. (I have 3, they all are that way). I would like something bright and not prone to disease like ICH. Hatchet fish according to my LFS get ICH everytime they do a PWC. I definetely don't want to deal with that. Danios are suppose to be a top fish right? I am not fond of them really, but found one I think is cool. The moustached danio. Anyone familiar with it?

Thank you! We decided on the roseline torpedo...but now are searching for an active top schooler at least 2" long. Do you know of any besides hatchetfish and danios?

Thank you for your reply!
Lots of plants for sure! I love planted tanks. Silver dollars are cool fish! My son will have them in his tank. I have been concidering dwarf neon rainbows. I have heard they prefer the mid to top levels. That would be good. I have roslelines now. Just looking for a colorful active top schooling fish.

pretty sure ICH is due to water quality issues not species. I think disease is more of a problem at Pet stores due to poor maintenance and/or sick fish coming from the suppliers.

IMO its not hard to deal with/eliminate. Personally I wouldnt rule out a fish because they're "prone" to it.

Oh okay. He said he's kept them in his personal tanks at home and that when ever he would do anything serious in the tank such as re-decorationg or transferring fish the marble hatchetfish would break out in Ich. Have you ever experienced this with your fish? Thank you.

That would be because he hasn't eliminated it from their bodies and the tank. Ich primarily attacks the gills so fish can have a low grade infection without us seeing it. He needs to follow through with a full course of treatment and the ich will not return.

Discus are my fav. I'm just afraid I'll kill them since they are so sensitive! Thank you though!
You have a great-sized tank for discus-keeping, and if they are your faves, why not give them a go ?
They're not that sensitive, actually quite hardy, and you won't kill them, so long as you get good-sized fish , say at least 3.5" to 4.0" to begin with, and be sure to get good quality, healthy, well-shaped stock from a well-known experienced supplier of quality fish - that's 50% of the battle already won if you do that.
If you did re-consider it, you'd have to do some re-thinking of the tankmates appropriate for discus-keeping, but I for one would be more than happy to get you started on the right track.
Think about it, won't you ?

Agreed. No fish rival discus. They are the supreme fish. Roselines should be fine with them but I just don't know about the krib. If you don't do discus be sure to get Mr. Krib a gal. Breeding them is fun.

Ahhh! Okay! That makes perfect sense! Well, in that case, I may just get me some of the little cuties then. I really love Hatchetfish! Thank you for clearing up the ich situation for me. I will pass this info on to him (hopefully he will listen...he might get offended because he has been keeping fish for countless years and me, only 6 months!)

:) Thanks! We are getting him a lady friend next week as a matter of fact! A friend of mine said he will be busy with her and leave the other fish alone...right now he claims the entire length of the tank as his and he is grumpy. I am nervous because I have read many times over they can get really aggressive when breeding or raising fry though. Supposedly they will claim one small area of the tank and gaurd it leaving the rest of the tank alone. Is this your experience keeping them too?

Okay...I am thinking about it. I do love Discus. I think they are trully magnifiscant fish! Trouble is there is only Petco and one a pet store with a fish section here in town. They occassional get discus, but they are about 1-2" at the most. Very small (and cute ;) )
So...I am ready to start this re-think. What now? ;) I already have the Roselines and the krib in the tank...I am sure if I asked the LFS would take them back...but I do really like the Roselines. Wouldn't they be a bit too boisterous for Discus? I really appreciate your help.
