I have a fully cycled 10 gallon aquarium, heated at 78 with a filter. and I was wondering what kind of guppies/how many guppies to get. I was thinking to start with a blonde delta guppy, and a tequila sunrise guppie. And wait a week or two. And if they are thriving get another set of 2 guppies. Will that work? I heard to stay away from fancy guppies because they are so over bred. Is that true?

I think the overbred thing depends on where you're getting the guppies from. If you know the breeder then they usually work on stabilizing lines after they get the color they want. My LFS has some snakeskin guppies which look really nice but the store is terrible so I'd probably just look at them in store and buy from a reputable dealer.

yes, you can put 8 male guppies at once in a 10 gallons if it is cycled. Keep an eye on ammonia and do water changes if needed. They do not fight that would cause harm. If the supplier is good they will be fine if you get some bad genetics then well...

You can easily add 8 male guppies. I'd go even further and add about 5-6 habrosus cories for the bottom. A little overstocked, but possible with good maintenance.

Another option would be male endler guppies, instead of the fancy guppies and you could support a dozen of them, as well as the cories.

Hmm here has been my experience with these fish:

Group of platies + smaller endler guppies = fine
Group of platies + 2 mollies = the platies killed them in 24h :(
Group of fancy guppies + 2 platies = they chased them relentlessly so I removed them

They can be mixed fine if you balance them correctly. Typically you need at least two females per male. If you get only one gender they won't fight.

Good luck
