Alright, so I've just dropped about 750 on a four bulb light fixture from CatalinaAquariums and the CO2 Ultimate pack from Green Leaf Aquariums.
At the moment... I've got 6 corys, and 3 guppies (I'm going to sell my angelfish and red barbs tomorrow, I'll miss the angels, but they're just a bit too evil for my taste).
As for plants, I've got a list as to what I want to buy, but the current tank tenants are three sets of dwarf hairgrass, a six year old plant that I'll probably never know what it is (my guess it's an amazon sword of sorts), an amazon sword, and... Well I'm going to have to look at the name again.
Anyway, the merchandise has yet to reach me, and I'm doing a TON of reading so that I don't blow myself up when I get the CO2 system set up, but I'm still curious. Is there anything I should be doing in the mean time? I mean, I don't want to get all this gear and be that "cool kid" in martial arts with all the expensive stuff and yet completely sucks. I want this tank to turn into a tropical oasis... an underwater oasis. So my question: Should I be doing anything to prepare my tank for the upcoming overhaul?
The lights should be easy, it's with the CO2 that I'm concerned about. I don't want to shock the aquarium or the PH. Which reminds me, I should probably buy a master test kit. Anyway, tips, tricks, DO NOT DOs, or anything will be appreciated. Thank you.
