Source for plants in NOVA

So, I've been into my planted tank hobby now for about a year and had mixed luck with plant sources. On-line purchases have resulted in plants arriving DOA, infested with snails and I suspect ... even bringing ick into my tank (speculation, no proof).

The best source of clean, healthy plants that I've found (no kidding) is Pet Smart (Top Fin). Everything I've purchased there was healthy, thrived and clean. Problem is, teh variety is really limited.

Does anyone have any scoop on local sources that are reliable on all counts???

None that I'm aware of. I think your best source is here on the forum.
Try GWAPA.org. Or go to a Potomac Valley Aquarium Society meeting (Home).

This is good but there's never really a great variety of plants there.
Well

Have you tried asking at either forum? There are a lot of members who have interesting plants. They may not bring them to auctions, but they'd probably be willing to sell you some, if you ask.

No I always just get what I want from here.
Where in VA are you?
There's a guy near me in Ashburn who has a fish room in his basement, I've got a lot of plants from him.
I've also done the Potomac Valley Aquarium Soceity auction, it's where I got my first lot of hornwort.

And if I happen to have any plants you would like it's only a day to ship (in the spring) if you're not close enough to drive....

Is his name Jay?
I don't know. Asian guy. He has regular posts on craigslist. Has lots of cichlids, some angelfish, a few saltwater tanks. The fish room is amazing. Previous time I was there he had a back-to-back row of small sofas and armchairs in the center of the room, nice to just sit and admire the tanks.

Yep that's him
I know it's not NOVA, but have you looked into House of Tropicals in MD? Good selection! Congressional in Rockvillle is another one, pricey in my opinion but worth a look.
Occasionally, the Centerville Aquarium will get interesting kinds of plants.

I just checked out Congressional a few weeks ago. It was nice to see they had several large tanks full of plants- and sorted by high, med, low light intensity. I was tempted to bring home crinium.

... Well, I know where I'm going this weekend.
I used to live in Ashburn, now live in Herndon. I sell plant trimmings every now and then from my jarrariums, but the trimmings may have snails (ramshorn).

If you're looking for absolutely snail-free plants/plant packages, you could buy online from Han Tran or several others on Facebook.
Does the guy in Ashburn still have his set up? I need plants

This is a few months late but the guy is still there. I was just there today and got some plants and a baby bristle nose pleco. He’s a cichlids breeder. But he doesn’t have a huge selection of plants. Maybe 2-3 different types. Long grass looking plants and some that looks like pine tree branches. Best description I have as I forgot the name. But they grow tall. No snails or pests at all in any tank he had in that basement.
