You can make a snail trap with bait put it in at night and take it out in the morning,#2 get some asassin snail or other types of fish to eat them, and # 3 chemicals but would not recommend if you plan on keeping any sort of shrimp or invertabrate later down the road. Or a complete tear down and start over.

thanks i think i may try the bait option first, but was not intending of using chemicals as i only have small fish.
what kind of snails?
And how many. I like my snails. I have pond snails, Ramshorn snails, and a couple of different kinds of trumpet snails. They are good cleaners and eat leftovers.
+1 for MTS they are amazing! My substrate has never been so clean. On the other hand I HATE my pond snails... there are some methods to controlling snail populations. First of all feed LESS. Generally a snail explosion is due to an overabundance of food.

Once you get that in check just squish what you can find when you can find them and soon you'll hardly have any.

Sounds like another customer for the Assassin snail people.
not a fan of assasin snails ... they will go through pretty much any snail population in days to a week! then you have the hassle of buying more snails to feed or trying to find donations.... The only snails that have hard enough shells to not be squishable are MTS.

Do a google image search for
ramshorn snails
malaysian trumpet snails
pond snails
nerites (? doubt it is these)

report back and we can advise better. Even if you can't squish them, just remove them. The same rule applies once you get rid of the majority of the population and FEED LESS you shouldn't have as much of an issue.

Thank-you
I dont see what type of fish or other animals you have in the tank but Clown loach and Rams are good snail control. Both with however hunt and eat small shrimp.

thank-you but my tank is to small.
Ya I guess it would be to small for those fish. If they are the really small snails than I would take the tank down and re set it up. They do have some snail control products but they are not shrimp safe. Good luck. I wish they would come out with something that would be safe to use with shrimp. It would sell like mad.
