most snails lay a clutch(eggs) above water line. they'll hop out for that then right back in the water. Also, there aren't any hoods that close the entire aquarium...there are still openings...so i don't see how you could do that.

A piece of plexiglass drilled to fit inlet/outlet tubes with either a section removed and replaced with screen or many tiny holes drilled through. There are still hole, but for the purposes of even newly hatched snails, you could make it closed without too much trouble.

I've got something similar to this going on my native tank because my darters and dace are notorious jumpers. They'll regularly jump into the plexiglass while I'm feeding them or the other tanks in the basement.
