I received a couple snails with some plants I bought today. One is a Malaysian Trumpet, I'm pretty sure. The other I am not sure about. Any help?

Also, what does everyone think about keeping MTS? I'm sure they will be on the plants, so I probably already have them, but was debating killing this one or putting it in the tank.

Thanks.

MTS?

Thanks for the IDs. I assume there is no benefits to the pond snail, but I have heard mixed about the MTS. What are your opinions about them?

Thanks.
About the MTS.
The good: turn over the sand substrate for more healthy roots/plants.
The bad : they tend to reproduce fast.
If you can keep the population under controle go ahead and put them in the tank.

^^ well the mts multiply very fast , but if you dont overfeed or your water isnt polluted its fine. IMO MTS are pretty good the aerate your substrate and eat all that good stuff in there, they multiply pretty fast, but can be controlled. As for pond snails they do eat alot of decaying matter and some algae but they are pretty prolific/messy and can get in to the filter intake. And like like both of them if there are to many its very unsightly. And thats IMO :p

If I had to pick between the two, I'd rather have MTS. My 40g breeder has a 3" sandbed and I just let them go nuts in there. Rarely do I see them except when I feed or turn the lights off (really let the sun go down, the tank is lit by sunlight through a window).

And if they get out of control, you can order the ever so popular Assassin Snail and breed those (then sell for extra cash as they multiply slow!).
