I found this snail in a local stream. There are a lot more underneath rocks. Can anyone ID this snail for me please? I am in Kentucky.

Looks like an MTS to me....
Clint, That's what it looks like to me too. But all the snails found in that creek have the same color. I though MTS have stripes and different colors. Also, can MTS survive through cold winters?
Now that you say that, I can see a little difference.... Esp with your pic and my MTS. Not much though. Not sure if it's a fluke or not but, I have some MTS in my pond that come back almost every year. I do have a surface heater but that doesn't heat the water..... Pretty much just keeps an "air hole" through the ice..
There are a lot of different snails in rivers. I'd consult a local library to see if they have a book on native insects.
I'd imagine it's a Pleuroceridae of some sort.. not really my area of expertise though.
anybody else can chime in on this?
IDK. But this raises a good question. Ive seen 3 different snails along the Illinois river and can find a good wat to identify ANY of them. Have google searched the heck out of it. If you find a good US native snail ID page let me know. FWIW Ive never seen any alive, just shells on the shore.
I think Shrimpo is dead on! That looks more like it.
I don't think the NZ Mudsnail has spread that far (..yet), or grow that big. Could be wrong on either point though.

I my self not 100% sure if it is mud snail, but it looks like the picture that the OP provided.
Contact a local state university biology department... best option for a real id.
I think NZ mudsnail is much smaller, i could be wrong though
Here is a pic some one posted of a solid colored mts snail they had.

that does look like the one I found. hmmm...... but on the other hand, the mud snail kind of look alike too. I looked for MTS in USGS invasive species database and looks like there has been no report of MTS in Kentucky streams...... which brings me to what overstock suggested, contact local university biology department......... how exactly do you go about doing that?
