This whole week my snail has been stuck at the very top of the tank and other places. Never occurred to me of different behavior. I got home from work today and hes now motionless upside down. Know how, know why.

As for my crs, lifes been the same as any other day. They look healthy and actively grazing.

Algae has just been growing in my tank so i just clean it out whenever. Not a real threat. However, some kind of black thin layer has grown on my leaf plants maybe before and since my algae started to come and I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT OR WHY IT DOES THAT.

BTW, ph is btween 6.5-7 / nitrate, nitrite - little to 0 / gh/kh low / light @ 3.3 wph / co2

If you have zero or no hardness, that's likely why the snail bit the dust.

hmm, thats interesting. I always thought snails can live in many various water conditions.

How are you measuring hardness (GH/KH)? I doubt it's actually near zero if your CRS are thriving.

It's possible the snail died of old age or for some other reason. But hardness is typically a big deal for snails, depending upon species.

yea its not. its measured in mg/L. gh @ ~80 / kh @ ~120

still been trying to figure out easier read conversions. i think the other is german units somethin like that

How are you testing it? I.E., test strip? Liquid kit? Brand?

If it's liquid - measure it in the number of drops. That's much easier to understand and use in general discussion.

yes, i use strip...which is kinda hard to read. I will probably be considering a liquid test kit for more accuracy.

Definitely pick up a liquid test kit.

GH & KH won't come in a standard master kit but you can pick both up for a total of $7-$10. It's well worth it if you're keeping shrimp or any sensitive critter.
