ive seen other people's tanks with a tiger lotus plant that stays close to the substrate and grows more horizontal than vertical. I have tried to find a name for it but just cant, does anyone know what plant I am talking about??

You have to constantly trim the leaves before they reach the top of the tank. This will force the lotus to produce shorter leaves.

In addition to trimming runners...you also would have to sacrifice ground coverage of surrounding plants, so light will allow lotus leaves to creep. Otherwise energy will be used to send runners to where light intensity is.
