Right now my 10g has a Marina Slim10. Its working okay, but is getting a wee bit noisier, and I'd like a little extra filtration. I have an extra Aqueon Power 20 (powerflow? Quietflow? Can't remember the exact name), but the box of the filter is too wide for the hole in the 10g hood.

Any suggestions for a better filter that is still small?

Small? I dunno. AquaClear (now owned by Fluval btw, but the same units) 30 40 or 50 would be my picks. I got a 110 on a 15 gallon! LOL

They're the best power filter out there though. Seriously.

Thanks for the replies!

I'd love an Aquaclear, but does anyone have the dimensions of the spout/intake? The hole in the hood of the tank is 6" wide. The Aqueon filter was much too wide to fit in (8.25"), and it looks like the Aquaclear is similar.

You can see in this picture how the Marina Slim10 has a much narrower spout/intake then the body of the filter.

if you dont mind spending a little more money i'd say get a canister filter if you're worried about the space for your hood. i think the zoo med 501 has pretty good reviews for its size.
