slimy stuff in my RO holding tank

526 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  [email protected]
I have a holding tank where I store RO water for my weekly water changes. It's just a regular 32 gal barrel that has a float valve for shut off when filled. The clear slimy stuff sticks to the barrel walls and also to the vinyl hose that I leave in the tank for refilling my 1 gal jugs. Any idea what this is and how to prevent it?

Biofilm.

It's harmless..... Just clean your surfaces regularly when it gets too thick, otherwise ignore it.
I did some more searching after I posted that and one site suggested treating it with hydrogen peroxide. Didn't get the exact ratio though, will have to dig more and find the correct ratio.
Empty the barrel once in a while and spray it with H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). The strong stuff from a beauty salon supply place is a higher concentration.

Second choice, take the barrel to a DIY car wash once a year and wash it with their pressure washer. Rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, and rinse some more when you get home.
