It won't take over the moss. It lasts a short period of time.

Take a look at some of my journals in my signature. Almost all of them involve me super gluing moss to wood before submerging it. No problems.

Attaching moss actually seems to limit the stuff that grows on the wood, giving it less room to grow.

If you are still doing a fishless cycle and it will be a while before adding livestock I would scrape it off, more or less, until you are ready to add livestock. It can get to be a bit much when there is nothing grazing it down.

It is a fungus, I think.
