I need help in tracking down a single LED light (DIY) build for a small 3 gallon round tank. Being new to this, type in LED lights and you get 10,000,000 useless hits.

I got about 1 inch of workable space in the lid to play with.

I'll start you off w/ extreme overkill..;)

CVM-14-56-95-36-AC00-F2-2 Luminus Devices Inc. | Optoelectronics | DigiKey

5600k and 95 or better CRI..

3/4" square package..
2500 lumens at one amp drive current..
Small 500mA LDD and a 48v (or a 36V w/ headroom) ps..
Lowest LDD-h is 300mA.. still plenty of power for such a small area..
At under 1/2 the lumen output of the 1A.. so about 2500 x .4 =1000 lumens

Again a "cadillac" type chip.. There are plenty of much cheaper ones..

Ldd-HW is about 1/2 inch thick so actually ldd/heatsink/chip sandwich is possible in 1" height..
