i had to put down one of my heckels tonight. :icon_cry: i have been battling internal parasites and and nutrition problems with this one fish for a while now. well i treated and dewormed, and his appatie came back like crazy, however, i dont think he was strong enough to overcome the damage that had been done. tonight, i found him dark brown in the corner, sunken sides and face...barely breathing. :icon_cry: didnt even try to evade the net when i went in after him. now im one less heckel...its deprressing. might have to go get another one to replace it but we shall see. the tank needs major attention. lights arent working 100%, diatom algae all over, just sometimes these things all come get ya at once.

I was just reading the March 2007 issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist and it has an article about internal parasites (capillaria to be specific). The author talks about using garlic to combat infestations. Do you feed your discus garlic? It was definitely an interesting read.

Soo sad to lose a beautiful fish. I lost 5 recently.
Still trying to figure out WTF happened. I treated with metro, formalin, and clout but apparently I am not a good doctor or nurse. I felt so helpless watching them go and the rest are regarding me as an assassin.......DC

DC, what happened? They were still fine when I went to your place a few weeks ago. I knew you were rescaping the tank with new driftwoods and soilmaster. I was wondering if the deaths were related to those at all.
