uhh, i got this ramshorn snail upside down on the bottom. It's been there all day in the same spot. It's retracted in the shell. It pokes out just a bit sometimes.

All the other snails are fine.:icon_conf

please help...

I turned it over.

My water is zero nitrite zero nitrate and less than 0.25 ppm ammonia.

These have all been zero in previous tests but i just added 13 neons and three rummynose! Bioload Boom!

Though 0.25ppm is not a lot of ammonia...

The rummy's noses are fine, though i would not wait for them to lose color.

Water change??

thanks

I just noticed the reagent in my drop checker has turned pale.

It's looking funky...

I've heard of it fading before but it's only been in there for ~2 weeks.

I know my CO2 levels are ok as i'm adding only 1 bubble every three seconds during the day - off at night. And i run an air driven sponge filter!

Could the regeant be affecting the snail? I noticed some snails on the checker before...

yah, a water change sounds good. I was going to do one anyway...

but could a low ammonia concentration such as 0.25 ppm give a snail difficulty?

I don't believe bromothymol blue is considered hazardous to fish or snails...certainly not 3 drops in an entire tank. You have something else going on...
Hmmm, what could be going on?

old age? how long do snails live?

parasite?

yes, this a common ramshorn snail. It's a dark brown w/ a light brown shell. I do have some reddish-orange ones in the tank as well.

i'm doing a water change right now...

update

All the snails in the tank are ok but are now more closed down on whatever surface they are on. Seems like they are protecting themselves more??:confused1:

The snail in question i first spoke of is still not moving:(
I'm not certain yet if i should remove it.

My water has 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and a tiny amount of nitrate

Thank you for all your experience and knowledge,

Hmmm, any other ideas on how a snail could be ill?

I'm wondering if i picked up a parasite from my newly aquired neons that might have affected the snail???? Just a guess. The neons seem healthy.

I need to get a quarantine tank set up...

well i took a closer look at the snail in question and all that remains is the shell!

What likely happened to it given this new info? The remaining shell looked clean and had no noticeable smell...
