Hi,

I think one of my fancy goldie is a little sick. He eats OK but, he goes hides into a corner between the plants and doesn't come out unless I push him with my hand. Then he runs back to the corner. He was very active yesterday, I lookes at him and I don't see anything on his skin/body. The other 2 in the tank are OK.

Hi,

This fish is with us for more than a year. Water is perfect, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. All the other goldies are just fine. This is a female, she eats good but then she runs into the corner between the plants. I'll stop the co2 and start my air stones to see what happens.

What makes you think she's constipated?

Boiled, peeled peas usually work. Frozen daphnia are another good constipation remedy.
Well her belly is a bit swollen. I moved her to the hospital tank to have some piece and quiet b/c one of the boys started to bully her. Darn, he never did that before.

a teaspoon would be a safe amount.

These shortened body fish have these issues quite often. Make sure to feed them a wide variety of foods that include fresh vegetables. All flakes and pellets are bad for them.

I would feed this guy some peas and not feed him for a few days to get the stoppage out of his body.

Hmm, she's still alive and eats the peas after 5 days in the hospital tank. I am treating her with Maracyn + , Melafix and a little Epsom. Also, change her water every day. Look like the swelling is down just a bit. Dropsy is always fatal but, we pray she'll make it.
