Came home today to find a dead Amano stuck to my circulation pump. Any DIY methods to make it easier for shrimp to get away from it or was it probably just a weak/dying shrimp anyway? The pump is about a half inch below water level.

Not sure about your exact pump but often you can place pantyhose or part of a filter sponge (call this the prefilter) before the intake to weaken the suction and protect from shrimps being sucked in. You will, however, have to clean the prefilter about once a week to ensure your HOB filter maintains good suction. You also do not want to clean your filter and prefilter at he same time or you risk killing a large portion of your beneficial bacteria.

The Koralia Nano 240 is not a filter. It's a powerhead.

Hm... I see. Wouldn't putting some type of sponge over the pump intake still accomplish what freph is looking for? To keep shrimp out of the intake?

Put it in panty hose, cut a hole out so that the front is not covered as well. Thats what I do with mine.

Also, if you have a zip tie. Use that to secure the panty hose on the back area

I havent had issues with my bigger koralia...But I have it mounted high in my tank to point at the surface angle. As long as there was no leaves to sit on near it...they dont go near it.
